What If - Review (2013)

I want to watch some light movie with a lot of romance and comedy. So I chose to watch What if. I love Harry Potter and Daniel Radcliffe So, I was squeeing when I watched this movie lol

Daniel Radcliffe plays the lead role in this film that seeks to find whether men and women can be platonic friends. The woman in question is played by Zoe Kazan. The film is set between Toronto and Dublin - yes Toronto, which usually impersonates various US cities in movies with limited budgets.

Stewing over a recent breakup, Wallace (Radcliffe) works at a textbook company while living in his sister's attic (an improvement over the cupboard under the stairs, at least). He's primed for romance when he encounters Chantry (Kazan), spewing whimsy and animated sketches in her wake. Sparks fly only to be put out when Chantry mentions her boyfriend and asks if they can just be friends.

The story is one that is very formulaic but it does gives you some sweet emotion as well as some laughs. A man and a woman can't exist as friends, who harbour a secret for each other, without some sexual tension. It's a hidden meaning of the picture and it makes you wonder if the outcome will be what you think it is. When you do see the ending, it's expected and no surprise. However, It makes you smile because the ending is a warm and fuzzy one.

With that being said, What If is not a daring romantic drama; so don't expect any narrative risk-taking and thought-provoking themes about relationships and whatnot, but it's remarkably fun and effectively funny regardless. The story also has the company of the always-hilarious and (usually) likable Adam Driver who plays a caring and kind friend (something you don't see too often but you'd love to see anyway). With the right expectations, What If is certainly a sweet treat that makes you feel good and enamors you with its on-screen romance.

Fore me, i don't see many chemistry from the leads. But I love them both. The story is very cliche and too familiar. But It's sweet, warm, and fun. SO I will recommend it to my friends.
