The Judge - Review (2014)

Robert Downey Jr is a lawyer who has an estranged relationship with his father who is also a Judge, played by Robert Duvall,. He visits his home town to attend his mother's funeral, but an unexpected turn of events causes him to stay and fight the most important case of his life.

With brilliant performances from Robert Downey Jr and Robert Duvall, their battle is a joy to watch. Robert Downey Jr plays Hank, the son with his usual quick witted, cocky and charismatic style is sure to be a crowd pleaser, and Robert Duvall's very humanistic performance as the bitter, stubborn father makes for a wonderful pairing of adversaries. Their outward contention is balanced well with their suppressed love for each other as father and son and the film is a wonderful emotional ride. The rival lawyer played by Billy Bob Thornton was also a nice surprise.

Vera Farmiga played Hank's love interest and balanced the relationships well, but her character went missing for part of the film, but it was clear she was the right girl for Hank, who's marriage was in tatters. Dax Shepard's role as the bumbling local lawyer was a bit clichéd and cheesy, but added the much needed humor to this mostly serious film.

The pace was slow. I'll be honest, it is not the most exciting movie, and that is saying something considering The Drop was not about much and I loved it. However The Judge had the usual pace of a law film and/or a father/son relationship film.

Aside from a few that this film offered, it was pretty real. Some of the issues going on, especially physical illness, was tough to watch in a good way. It did not skimp anything that helped the story. Until the end, which was eh. Hey, ending was better that The Maze Runner! -The music was good. Just listen to Saving Mr. Banks. Same composer. Same music pretty much.

I know I have said a few negatives, but the film was pretty good. The poster didn't the justice. The acting were great. even thou the story is a little overdo
