(500) Days of Summer (2009)

I know I haven't been here for a long time and I have watched a lot of movies. but I'm just too lazy to post some reviews. But I'm gonna start with this one. After this I will try to post more movie reviews that I have watched recently. This is one of my favorite film with lovable character and sweet but angts story. My kind of heaven lol. I just watched this movie again and I remember the hype and the quotes were all over tumblr back in the day.

For starters the charisma and passion between Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel works brilliantly on screen. Finding two actors who work so well together (in every way) is a rare thing. The style of editing is superbly original, at the beginning you might be skeptical, but you'll soon realise how marvelous it it really is. The soundtrack is a treat of indie classics that match the films tonality with perfection. If you try and change anything about this movie you'll soon see the level of class it really sits on.

Trainwerk (2015)

In the opening scene Amy's dad is telling a young Amy and her little sister why he is getting a divorce in a way they will understand. I was curious as to where this movie would be going after his creative way of explaining his infidelities. Cut away to 20 or so years later and Amy's many "sexcapades", this movie was so aptly named "Trainwreck. I sat through this movie I wanted to become an Amy Schumer fan but she did not make me laugh if anything I was just waiting for it to end and blaming her for a wasted evening.

"Monogamy isn't realistic," insists Gordon Townsend (Colin Quinn) to his two young daughters, as he likens relationships to playing with dolls. What child only wants to play with one doll for the rest of her life? This advice sticks with Amy (Amy Schumer) as she grows up, subconsciously coercing her to filter through dispensable men at an uncountable rate. Her worldview is as cynical and crass as her elderly father (who is now getting moved into an assisted living facility), fueling her approach toward her career and the opposite sex with sarcasm and inconsideration. She can't really take anything seriously.

Focus (2015)

I had high expectations before watching this movie. I was bored 50% of the time. The other half was enjoyable.  Oh and honestly there was a bit of a twist and it made me rethink the whole logic of the movie after ward. One of the weakest crime syndicate movies I've ever seen. I know most crime films like fast and furious aren't really that believable, but they do a good job with "suspension of disbelief" so you don't sit there questioning the events that you are watching. This movie for some reason never did that for me, I kept seeing things and thinking they were too far fetched.

When seasoned con man Nicky (Will Smith) encounters amateur pickpocket Jess (Margot Robbie), he's immediately intrigued by her charm and enthusiasm. Agreeing to take her on as something of a protégé, Nicky teaches Jess to hone her prowess at deception and thievery so that the duo can transition from simple wallet snatches to complex scams involving an entire team of swindlers. But as Nicky steadily falls for Jess, and the two find themselves on opposite sides of a dangerous scheme to defraud a billionaire racecar owner (Rodrigo Santoro), they must learn to trust each other in order to pull off the biggest con of their careers.

The Disappearance of Eleanor Rigby: Them (2014)

I have been waiting for this movie since 2013 TIFF. The plot looks good, I love angsty love story. and They have Queen Chastain and McAvoy in one film. Written and directed by Benson, "Them" crafts an emotional and passionate tale of love lost, regained, and ultimately doomed to exist. Almost taking cues from films like Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Benson offers up an honest and raw interpretation of love in the shadow of tragedy. Likely not his first choice in which to tell his story, he takes a meticulous paintbrush and strokes through every part of the film with intricate detail, choosing what and what not to tell the audience.

The negative aspect of the film, the audience never acquires an understanding of how this event created two very unhappy people. The only glimpse I receive of their suffering is at the beginning when Eleanor tries to kill herself by jumping off the Brooklyn Bridge. The movie transitions from utter happiness in the opening scene to a suicide attempt hence the sudden mood change. From there on it is downhill with the occasional hope of a happy ending unfortunately never fulfilling though.

Laggies (2014)

I'm a big fan of all girl romcom. So when I heard Keira Knightley would be in romcom movie, I will gladly watch it.

Laggies is all about growing up, with its main character unable to take life seriously. The film explores to several compelling points of moving on to adulthood. Then it takes to a quirkier turn where Megan tries to make another life with a younger crowd where she feels more accepted of who she is. This is meant to be a story about getting away from the comfort zone, the movie does bring a lot of acknowledgment of why this is supposed to be the right thing, but it resolves to a more comfortable type of ending which doesn't live up much to what it wants to say.

While this movie does not bring anything new to the table at all, Laggies is still a very funny and entertaining movie. Great performances from everyone involved especially Sam Rockwell. I recommend this movie. The movie starts out with the main character going to a class reunion dance, she goes to the dance with her boyfriend of 10 years I believe, it was a while ago I saw it, and they were having a good time. The boyfriend tries to propose but Megan, the main character, tells him she is first going to a conference for a week. She instead goes to a teenager to whom she purchased alcohol for in the beginning. This is how the movie starts and the rest is up to you.
